Russia and Bolivia strengthen nuclear training and public acceptance
Rosatom and the ministry of hydrocarbons and energy of Bolivia have signed a memorandum on personnel training and education in nuclear power, and a separate memorandum to cooperate on public acceptance projects. Announcing the agreements today, the Russian state nuclear corporation said the framework for cooperation had thus been set in two key areas of Bolivia's nuclear power program.

Areva signs nuclear fuel cycle contracts
Areva has announced a number of contracts in the nuclear fuel cycle. The contracts relate to used fuel management at a Belgian research reactor, a Romanian waste repository and the supply of used fuel storage canisters in the USA.

Japanese research reactor materials arrive in USA
A shipment of plutonium and highly enriched uranium from Japan Atomic Energy Agency's (JAEA) Fast Critical Assembly reactor has arrived at two US Department of Energy sites. Japan and the USA announced their commitment to remove the material at 2014 and 2016 nuclear summits.

Swiss regulator approves Proteus decommissioning plan
The Swiss nuclear safety regulator has said it is satisfied with the plans set out by the Paul Scherrer InstituteÌýfor decommissioning the Proteus research reactor. The reactor was primarily used for neutron physics experiments with different nuclear fuels.

Lightbridge charts progress towards irradiation testing
UPDATED
Lightbridge Corporation has received final regulatory approval for irradiation testing of its metallic fuel at Norway's Halden research reactor. The company has also entered an agreement with US fabricator BWXT Nuclear Energy to evaluate the possible fabrication of fuel samples at BWXT's US facilities.
